COMMON QUESTIONS

Baptism can bring up a lot of thoughts—”Am I ready?” “What does it mean?” “What if I was baptized as a kid?” We’ve got you covered. Check out answers to the most common questions people ask before taking this step.

Why do we baptize by immersion?

We practice baptism because it is the model in Scripture. Jesus was baptized (Matthew 3), He commanded His disciples to baptize those who would follow Him (Matthew 28), and Peter tells the crowds that baptism is the starting point for many of those who would follow Jesus (Acts 2).
We practice immersion because in the Bible, baptism was done by immersion — the Greek word means “to immerse or dunk.”— so we follow that model. Going under the water represents the old life being washed away, and coming up shows the new life we have in Jesus.

I was baptized as an infant, should I do it again?

I was baptized as a young child, should I do it again?

If you understood what you were doing and made that decision for yourself, there’s no need to be baptized again. If you feel like you need to “do it again” because your first baptism “wasn’t enough” or you’ve sinned since, then no—there’s one baptism (Eph. 4:5), and God’s forgiveness keeps covering you as you grow (Heb. 10).
